It has been a long time coming and I suspect it will be another couple of years or so before Mach4 is truly ready to take over from Mach3 in the hobby CNC world. It can be used in conjunction with many different electronic components like a parallel breakout board or even an external controller. I do have a licensed version of Mach4 installed but until such time as it fully emerges out of it’s beta stage it will not get used by me for any serious work. Mach3 software installed on a Windows PC can do standalone control operations with or without making use of a controller board. Having said that, full support for the product will continue to be available through the Artsoft and CNC Zone forums for many years to come and as a result I am perfectly happy to continue using Mach3, with my machines, at least into the foreseeable future.
